Los Angles Rams
1946
(10-06-46) Los Angles Rams @ Green Bay Packers - The Green Bay Packers were within six seconds of winning their first ball game of the season, but, in that brief span, Mike Holovak bulled over from the one-foot line to give the Los Angeles Rams a 21-17 win. The Rams began their winning drive on their 20-yard line. Tom Harmon, former Michigan star, skirted left end for 30 yards and from there on Bob Waterfield fired four passes to Jim Benton for a first down on the Packer one foot mark. The Packers reared up and stopped Waterfield's quarterback sneak, but Holovak pushed it across on the next play. Curly Lambeau said, after the game, he was considering filing a protest and claimed the game actually was over when Holovak scored. He said the officials called time out in the closing seconds, giving the Rams time to line up for the final try. If the Rams had called the time-out, they would have incurred a five-yard penalty under the league rules, Lambeau declared. - played in Milwaukee, narrated, color original game film (7 minutes)

(09-25-66) WK 3 - Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers - Bart Starr braced the reeling Green Bay Packers with an 80-yard touchdown strike to Elijah Pitts in the final period, and the Packers went on to a 24-13 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. The victory gave the unbeaten Packers undisputed possession of first place in the NFL Western Conference race. The Packers, their back to the wall as a result of four fumble recoveries by the Rams, were struggling to hold a 17-13 lead when Starr, passing from near his own end zone on a second down and 10 play, found Pitts in the clear on about the Packer 45. Pitts, getting a bruising block from Boyd Dowler, sprinted ahead of the Rams secondary the rest of the way. The Packers had a 17-0 lead and had held the Rams without a first down when their fumbling started late in the second period. The Rams' Maxie Vaughan pounced on Starr's fumble at the Green Bay 33 to set up a 13-yard Bruce Gossett field goal. Gossett, who missed two field goals in the second half, kicked a 35-yarder minutes later. The second field goal came after Pitts lost the ball on a hand-off and Irv Cross recovered. The Rams struck again in the third period as they mounted a 54-yard drive that ended with Dick Bass slicing over from the eight. Starr was at his best in the first half as he engineered touchdown drives of 69 and 33 yards. Both drives ended in Paul Hornung touchdowns - the first on a six yard pass and the second on a four yard slant off tackle. Don Chandler, who had one field goal blocked by Dave Jones in the first period, connected from the 14 in the second quarter. Dave Robinson had picked off a Roman Gabriel pass at the Rams' 27 and returned it to the 13 to set it up. - NFL “GOTW” highlights from game - original, 26 minutes (Quality 9)

(12-18-66) WK 15 - Green Bay Packers @ Los Angeles Rams - Green Bay destroyed Los Angeles' hopes of going to the Playoff Bowl as reserve quarterback Zeke Bratkowski led the champion Packers to a 27-23 victory. A crowd of 72,416, the largest in two years, turned out in summerlike weather in hopes that the Rams might win and journey to Miami, Fla,, for the game between the second place teams of the NFL's two divisions January 8. Green Bay wound up the regular season with a record of 12-2, while the Rams, 8-6, had their best season since 1958. The Rams suddenly caught fire in the final three minutes of the game and scored two touchdowns to go with the record-making three field goals kicked by Bruce Gossett. Gossett's three field goals were for 36, 30 and 17 yards and brought his total for the season to 28, breaking the NFL record of 26 set in 1962 by Lou Michaels with Pittsburgh. As the fans were streaming out, punter Jon Kilgore faked a punt pass and threw the ball to DB Claude Crabb, a member of the kicking team. It went for 47 yards to the Packer 15, and two plays later, Roman Gabriel ran for the touchdown. There was a multi-fumble scene in the last minute, and Merlin Olsen came up with the ball. Gabriel passed for 65 yards to Steve Heckard to the Packer three and then passed for the TD to Marlin McKeever to pull within four points of Green Bay. Bratkowski, filling in for regular Bart Starr, played the entire game and threw one touchdown pass, 23 yards to Carroll Dale. Bob Jeter intercepted a Gabriel pass and returned it 75 yards to put Green Bay in front 7-3. The Packers led 17-9 at the half and 27-9 until the Ram explosion in the final period. Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung lined up in the second half for the final time in their careers. - NFL “GOTW” highlights from game - original, 26 minutes (Quality 9)

(12-09-67) Wk 13 - Green Bay Packers @ Los Angeles Rams - A blocked punt set up Los Angeles' winning touchdown in an electryfying 27-24 victory over the Green Bay Packers, keeping alive the Rams' hopes in the Coastal Division. The Packers apparently had this thriller wrapped up when reserve back Chuck Mercein ran four yards and Don Chandler's conversion put them ahead 24-20 with less than three minutes left in the game. A fumble by the Rams' Dick Bass was recovered by Jim Weatherwax on the Rams' 43 and paved the way for the final Packer touchdown. The Rams' defense held and on fourth down a punt attempt by Donny Anderson was blocked by Tony Guillory and his teammate, Claude Crabb, scooped up the ball and rambled 20 yards to the Green Bay five. With 54 seconds left, Roman Gabriel's first pass was incomplete. The next one was a direct hit in the end zone to Bernie Casey for the winning touchdown. The Rams, after trailing 10-7 at the half, were in front 17-10 in the third quarter when the complexion of the game changed quickly. Bruce Gossett kicked a 23-yard field goal but on the kickoff to the Packers, rookie halfback Travis Williams, who had run three such kicks back for touchdowns this season, returned the boot 104 yards with a sensational display of speed. Bart Starr completed 10 of 20 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown, with two interceptions. Gabriel connected on 20 of 36 for 227 and three touchdowns, with two interceptions. One of Starr's two interceptions came in the final series of plays as the clock ticked away. But the end came when his pass was picked off by Maxie Vaughan. - NFL “This week in the NFL” highlights from game - original - 15 minutes (Quality 9) - Added March, 2009

(12-23-67) 1967 Western Conference Championship - Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers - Jubilant Green Bay Coach Vince Lombardi said it all after his Packers had whipped Los Angeles 28-7 and captured the Western Conference title in the National Football League. "We were magnificent today," the usually dour Lombardi enthused. "We rose to the occasion. A lot of people said the Packers were dead. But we still have a great nucleus." The aging but peerless Packers gave quarterback Bart Starr almost perfect protection and unleashed a remorseless rush on the Rams' Roman Gabriel to gain a berth in the NFL title game. "Never mind the 'Fearsome Foursome.' We've got our 'Fearsome Onesome,' " shouted Ron Kostelnik in a salute to teammate Henry Jordan, who tormented Gabriel throughout the long, cold afternoon. Jordan dropped Gabriel four times. He shared individual glory with Starr, Ray Nitschke and the phenomenal rookie Travis Williams. Starr and Williams accounted for three of the four Packer touchdowns. Starr passed 17 yards to Carroll Dale for one, and Williams ran 46 and two yards for two more scores. The only Los Angeles touchdown came on a 29-yard pass from Gabriel to Bernie Casey in the first period. - NFL “GOTW” highlights from game - original - Added March, 2009

(12-26-77) 1977 NFC Divisional - Minnesota Vikings @ L.A. Rams - “The Mud Bowl” The Rams had easily defeated an aging Vikings team in the regular season, and after years of frustrating playoff losses in the cold of Green Bay and Minnesota, the Rams finally had a home playoff game against a cold weather team. But as luck would have it, Los Angeles was engulfed in a torrential rainstorm. In the game known as the "Mud Bowl", running back Chuck Foreman led the Vikings to a victory by recording 101 rushing yards in a torrential rainstorm. Minnesota Head Coach Bud Grant's strategy was to have quarterback Bob Lee throw early before the field lost traction. The Vikings scored first on Foreman's 5-yard touchdown run which capped a 70-yard drive. From that point on until the fourth quarter, both teams remained scoreless while the field turned into a quagmire. The Rams had two chances to score, but quarterback Pat Haden threw an interception in the end zone and kicker Rafael Septien missed a field goal. Then early in the final period, Sammy Johnson scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown. With less than a minute left in the game, Haden threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Harold Jackson to cut the score 14-7. The Rams then recovered the ensuing onside kick, but Haden threw another interception to end the game. - CBS NFL Today pre-game, commercials, halftime and post-game (Quality 8.5) - Upgraded February, 2021

(12-17-78) Wk 16 - Green Bay Packers @ Los Angeles Rams - Pat Haden, the frequently criticized Los Angeles quarterback, scrambled 24 yards to set up one touchdown and passed 21 yards to Willie Miller for another score to lead the Rams to a 31-14 victory over Green Bay and a home-field advantage in the playoffs. The defeat dropped Green Bay to 8-7-1 and eliminated the Packers from playoff consideration. They played in rain at the Coliseum. Cullen Bryant rushed for 121 yards on 30 carries and scored touchdowns on runs of 1 and 5 yards, the latter set up when Haden rushed his 24 yards to the Packers' 5-yard line. The Rams, 12-4 and already slated to host a playoff game on December 31, will be the NFC's championship game host if they survive that first contest. The Rams scored first after Pat Thomas intercepted a David Whitehurst pass at the Los Angeles 48-yard line and returned to the Green Bay 31. Eight plays and two Green Bay offside penalties resulted in Bryant's first touchdown, on a sweep to the right. Haden, who has been under fire in Los Angeles because the Rams had only been 4-4 since winning seven straight, completed three passes in that advance. Nolan Cromwell partially deflected a David Beverly punt to put the Rams at midfield and start their second touchdown advance. Los Angeles went 50 yards in six plays, including Haden's scramble when he couldn't find an open man. It was Haden's longest run since he joined the Rams two years ago. - Partial game which includes the 1st half, halftime, commercials and most of the 3rd Qtr - added September 2007
(12-31-78) 1978 NFC Divisional - Minnesota Vikings @ Los Angeles Rams - After the game was tied 10-10 at halftime, the Rams dominated the second half by scoring 24 unanswered points. After the Vikings opened up the scoring with a field goal, Los Angeles marched 59 yards to score on quarterback Pat Haden's 9-yard touchdown pass to Willie Miller. However, Minnesota tied the game 6 seconds before halftime when quarterback Fran Tarkenton threw a 1-yard touchdown to Ahmad Rashad. From that point on, the Rams controlled the rest of the game. After Cullen Bryant gave Los Angeles the lead midway through the third period with a 3-yard touchdown, Haden threw a 27-yard touchdown to Ron Jessie and the route was on as the Rams would go onto to win 34-10 going away. Meanwhile, the Vikings offense could only manage 58 yards of offense during the second half in what turned out to be Fran Tarkenton's last game of a Hall of Fame career. - Has only the tv audio broadcast for the last 10 minutes of game - Includes commercials and halftime (Quality 8) (3 discs) - Added August, 2007

(09-21-80) Green Bay Packers @ Los Angeles Rams - Rookie Johnnie Johnson and veteran Rod Perry returned intercepted passes 99 and 83 yards for touchdowns as the Los Angeles Rams exploded for 37 points in the second quarter and went on to bury the Green Bay Packers 51-21. The 37 points was the second-greatest one quarter outburst in their history exceeded only by the 41 points they scored in the third quarter of a game against Detroit 30 years ago. The Rams turned five pass interceptions into touchdowns before a crowd of 63 850 at Anaheim Stadium. QB Vince Ferragamo hit Billy Waddy with a 33-yard scoring pass for the only scoring of the first period. Then came the Rams' explosion. Frank Corral's 29 yard field goal three seconds into the second quarter made it 10-0. Cullen Bryant ran four yards for a touchdown, three plays after Pat Thomas intercepted a pass thrown by Green Bay QB Lynn Dickey. The Packers, who fell to 1-2, scored their first touchdown shortly later on a 46-yard pass from Dickey to Eddie Lee Ivery. Then Johnson, whose $1 million contract caused several veterans to hold out from the Rams' summer training camp, picked off a pass thrown by Dickey near his goal-line and raced nearly the length of the field for his first NFL touchdown. It was the longest return of an intercepted pass in Rams' history. Two players had returned interceptions 97 yards. Later in the second quarter Elvis Peacock plunged one yard for a touchdown. Ferragamo fired a 29-yard scoring pass to Willie Miller, and Perry tallied on his interception return, making it 44-7 at halftime. The Packers gave up 51 pts, the most since they lost 56-0 to the Colts in 1958. After the game, Dickey openly questioned whether he could be the team leader. LB Mike Hunt suffered a serious concussion and never played for the Packers again. JIP 17-7 in early 2nd Qtr (only way game available right now) - Includes commercials (Quality 8.5)

(09-09-90) Wk 1 - Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers - Anthony Dilweg, given the chance to play by Don Majkowski's 45-day holdout, passed for three touchdowns in his first NFL start, leading the Green Bay Packers past the Los Angeles Rams 36-24. Dilweg twice passed to TE Ed West for touchdowns, the second from seven yards with 11:43 to play. That capped a nine-play, 80-yard drive and put the Packers ahead 27-17. Three plays later, Henry Ellard fumbled after a pass reception and Green Bay's Jerry Holmes picked it up and ran 33 yards to the Los Angeles 4. Brent Fullwood's 2-yard touchdown run put the Packers ahead 33-17. But Jim Everett then completed five passes in an 80-yard drive that took just under three minutes. He capped it with a 2-yard toss to Pete Holohan, bringing the Rams within 33-24 with 8:11 left. The Packers, behind Dilweg, then chewed up seven minutes with another long drive. Chris Jacke hit a 51-yard field goal, but the Rams were called for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play, giving the Packers a first down at the Rams' 18. With 1:06 to play, Jacke kicked a 40-yarder for the game's final points. Dilweg, completed 20 of 32 passes for 248 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Query to give the Packers a 17-14 lead with 1:35 left in the first half. (Quality 9)

(09-29-91) Wk 5 - Green Bay Packers @ Los Angeles Rams - The Los Angeles Rams, a team badly in need of some spark, got two big plays from special teams veteran Paul Butcher as they scored two touchdowns in seven seconds and held on for a 23-21 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Blair Kiel, taking over after starting quarterback Don Majkowski went out with a shoulder injury in the second quarter, rallied the Packers to two late touchdowns, but the Rams held on to the ball for the final 4:49. The Rams trailed 7-3, but moved ahead with 17 points in the last 2:41 of the first half. After the second of three field goals by Tony Zendjas pulled Los Angeles within 7-6, Butcher, a 5-year NFL veteran who's started just one game, set up the Rams' first touchdown when he recovered a fumble by the Packers' Allen Rice at the Green Bay 15. (12-20-92) Wk 16 - Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers - Game was played in bitter cold - Terrell Buckley has a sweet interception he returns for a TD - The Green Bay Packers still are on the outside looking in for a playoff berth, even after beating the cold and the Los Angeles Rams 28-13 for their sixth straight victory. The Packers scored four touchdowns in the final 6:48 of the second quarter for a 28-10 halftime lead behind the play of Terrell Buckley and Sterling Sharpe and then held on in frigid temperatures. Game-time temperature was 8 degrees with a wind chill of 15 below. By the second half, it had warmed up to 14 with the wind chill at 5 below. But to make the playoffs, the Packers will have to do so as a wild card after the Vikings beat the Steelers, 6-3, Sunday to clinch the NFC Central. Green Bay needs to win in the Metrodome next Sunday and hope that either Philadelphia or Washington loses. The Eagles (10-5) beat the Redskins (9-6) Sunday, 17-13. In case of a three-way tie, the Packers would still make the playoffs. Buckley made two interceptions, returning one for a 33-yard touchdown, and also made a touchdown-saving tackle. Sharpe, meanwhile, caught eight first-half passes, two for touchdowns, to move within four catches of tying Art Monk's single season record of 106 receptions. And Green Bay's defense made one goal line stand in the first half, giving up only a field goal after stopping the Rams three times from the 1. Los Angeles twice moved to the Packers 4 in the fourth quarter and came away scoreless. Jim Price dropped a pass in the end zone on a fourth down to end one series and Jim Everett threw incomplete on fourth to end the other. The Rams had an early 7-0 lead after Everett hit Willie Anderson with a 16-yard touchdown pass following a fumble by Green Bay's Darrell Thompson on the second play from scrimmage. Darryl Henley intercepted a Brett Favre pass in the end zone and then the Rams were on the verge of a 14-point turnaround when David Lang broke loose on a 71-yard run to the Packers 3 when Buckley chased him down and saved a touchdown. A penalty on Green Bay moved the ball to the 1 and from there the Packers stopped three straight running plays, forcing the Rams to go for Tony Zendejas' 19 yard field goal and a 10-0 lead. The Packers then moved 61 yards in nine plays, the big play a third down pass to TE Jackie Harris, who made a juggling catch for a 16 yard gain and first down at the 15. Thompson's 2-yard run touchdown run made it 10-7 with 6:48 until half. Everett then threw a floater into the 15 mph wind and Buckely made an over the-shoulder interception and zig-zagged across the field for the touchdown that made it 14-10. After a short punt, Favre and Sharpe hooked up four times for 59 yards on a 61-yard drive. Sharpe caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from with 1:20 left in the half as Green Bay took a 21-10 lead. - 2 different versions

(09-05-93) Wk 1 - Los Angeles Rams @ Green Bay Packers - Reggie White's first game as a Packer - Jerome Bettis’ first career game - The Los Angeles Rams double teamed Sterling Sharpe and they still couldn't stop the Green Bay Packers' record-setting receiver, he had seven catches for 120 yards, in Sunday's season opener. Sharpe caught a 50-yard touchdown pass when two Rams' defenders, leaping in front of him, tipped the ball into the end zone. When Sharpe wasn't open TE Jackie Harris was, as Green Bay routed the Rams, 36-6. Harris caught five passes for 92 yards. "A lot of times Jackie was our second guy," Brett Favre said. "He was open ... and I got the ball to him. You can see after the catch he can make some big plays." But no play was bigger than the one Sharpe made in the first quarter. It set the tone for the game and gave the Packers a 9-3 lead. As Favre scrambled and heaved the ball toward the end zone, Sharpe got behind leaping defenders Pat Terrell and Todd Lyght and held onto the ball after both Rams tipped it into the end zone. "I knew Sterling was deep and I tried to throw it up as hard as I could," Favre said. Sharpe, who caught an NFL-record 108 passes last season, wasn't around to describe his catch because he won't talk to the media. "It wobbled a little on me but Sterling made a great catch," Favre said. "That's what we look for out of him and that's the kind of plays we need to make all year." Both Terrell and Lyght said it was a play they both should make. The Packers scored on their final possession of the first half and first two of the third quarter, and their defense stifled the Rams before a crowd of 54,648. Favre, who completed 19-of-29 for 264 yards, directed a 76-yard drive in 10 plays' as the Packers beat the clock ending the first half and took a 19-6 lead. Starting with 3:37 left, Favre hit passes of 26 and 21 yards to Harris, then flipped a 4-yard touchdown pass to Mark Clayton with 40 seconds remaining. Edgar Bennett's 11-yard run capped a 66-yard, third-quarter drive, highlighted by a 26-yard Favre-to-Sharpe pass, as Green Bay took a 26-6 lead. On the next series, Favre hit passes of 16 and 14 yards to Harris, and after Lyght interfered with Sharpe in the end zone, Bennett rammed in from the 1. - Includes commercials (Quality 9)

Robert Brooks returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown, and the Packers scored 21 straight points in the second half to overcome a 17-3 halftime deficit White, the all-time NFL leader with 142 sacks in 143 career games, had 2 sacks Sunday, including one that forced a Chris Miller fumble behind his own 40-yard line with four seconds remaining. (09-03-95) WK 1 - St. Louis Rams @ Green Bay Packers - Rams first game as the "St. Louis Rams" after moving out of LA - The St. Louis Rams switched coaches, addresses and philosophies, and on Sunday their luck changed, too. The Rams, who fled Anaheim, last winter and replaced coach Chuck Knox with Rich Brooks, picked off Brett Favre three times and snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 17-14 victory over host Green Bay. The new Rams, playing before a record crowd of 60,104 at Lambeau Field, where the Packers had won 10 straight, got a stunning performance by WR Isaac Bruce to offset their miserable rushing attack. In his first NFL start, Isaac Bruce blocked a punt in the second quarter, recovered it and then hauled in a touchdown pass five seconds later for a 7-0 halftime lead. (Quality 8.5)

The Rams, whose upset of the Packers in the 1995 opener is the only blemish in Green Bay's last 35 home games, were done in by 15 penalties that cost them 110 yards. The Rams picked off six passes by Brett Favre, the most he has thrown in any game. Kim Herring set up a first-half TD with his pickoff, and Polley had another interception in the second half to hand the Packers their worst playoff loss. Then the Rams attempt to win on 53yd FG falls "just" short and play continues. (11-19-04) WK 11 - St. Louis Rams @ Green Bay Packers - The governor proclaimed it "Brett Favre Day", and the night belonged to the quarterback, too. Favre celebrated his 200th straight regular season start with three touchdown passes, and set another record in the Green Bay Packers' 45-17 rout of the St. Louis Rams on Monday night. Favre topped 20 touchdown passes for the 11th straight season, breaking a tie with Dan Marino on a 7-yard toss to tight end Bubba Franks in the second quarter that made it 14-3. He also threw touchdown passes to Javon Walker and Donald Driver as the Packers got two defensive touchdowns and won their sixth straight to keep pace with Minnesota atop the NFC North. Favre didn't have his costar, Ahman Green, who was out with injured ribs. But Najeh Davenport came up with a strong imitation, gaining 178 yards on 19 carries in his first NFL start even though he had a sore hamstring. It was the fifth-highest single-game rushing total in franchise history, and Davenport capped his night with a 40-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-1 with 1:52 left to make it 38-17. Marc Bulger threw for more yards — 448 — against Green Bay than any quarterback ever had, completing 35 of 53 passes, but St. Louis missed a chance to tie Seattle atop the NFC's woeful West. Isaac Bruce caught nine passes for 170 yards and a touchdown but his two fumbles were returned for touchdowns, one by rookie Ahmad Carroll to start the scoring and one by Michael Hawthorne to cap the rout in the final minute.

(10-08-06) WK 8 - St. Louis Rams @ Green Bay Packers - St. Louis used to be the most stylish team in the NFL. Now they're winning ugly -- to the tune of a surprising 4-1 start. The Rams staved off a fourth-quarter comeback attempt by the Packers, walking away with a victory at Lambeau Field after a big defensive play in the final minute. What used to be the "Greatest Show on Turf" under former coach Mike Martz isn't much of a show at all under new coach Scott Linehan. But so far, Linehan's more conservative offensive approach is a hit. Favre was relatively quiet for three quarters before rallying the Packers for a fourth-quarter touchdown to rookie Greg Jennings that cut the Rams lead to three with 6:42 remaining. Favre then got the ball back with 2:46 remaining, and drove the Packers to the Rams 11-yard line with 44 seconds left. But Favre was pressured by defensive lineman Jimmy Kennedy, and Leonard Little poked the ball away from Favre. The ball bounced around before landing in the hands of Rams defensive back Jerametrius Butler. Little, who needed three IVs after the game, was prodded to make a play on the sideline by defensive coordinator Jim Haslett earlier in the game. He finally did, but watched as the ball nearly was recovered by Packers offensive lineman Daryn Colledge. With the Rams leading 17-13 and driving late in the third quarter, Marc Bulger threw Harris' way at the Green Bay 14, an errant pass that hit Harris in the numbers. But instead of running 95 yards down a clear path for a go-ahead touchdown, Harris dropped the ball. Would he have gone all the way? "You never know," Harris said.

John Kuhn had a 10-yard TD grab and rushed for a score, while Greg Jennings pulled in two passes for 103 yards in the win. Donald Driver also had a big game, catching four balls for 95 yards and a TD. Steven Jackson had 27 carries for 117 yards and Daniel Fells had a pair of TD catches for the Rams, who have started 0-3 for the third straight season and have dropped 13 in a row with their last win coming on October 19, 2008 versus Dallas.
